No, currently only our Calgary & Vancouver Clinics can provide this type of diagnostic exam. Refer to the Contact Us section to attain their contact numbers.
2. Can I get a complete MRI body scan at your Clinic?
Ottawa Valley MRI Cente does not offer full MRI body scans. Our Calgary and Vancouver Clinics offer CT Scans of heart, lung and colon. Please refer to their link for more information about CT scans.
Tatoos are fine as long as they are older than 4 weeks.
4. I may be pregnant what should I do?
Ottawa Valley MRI will not perform MRI exams if a patient is pregnant.
5. Is there any radiation from MRI?
MRI does not produce X-Ray radiation. The MRI machine produces only a radio signal.
If you have ever been a grinder, metalworker, welder or worked with metal you may have a have a metallic foreign body in their eye without even knowing it and you will need to have an x-ray of the eyes prior to having an MRI.
Claustrophobia is rarely severe enough (0.2% of patients) to require sedation.
Ottawa Valley MRI Centre is unable to offer patients sedatives.If you or your patients are concerned about claustrophobia interfering with the MR examination, please feel free to prescribe the oral or sublingual benzodiazepine of your choice.Please ensure your patient takes the medication one hour prior to their appointment time and that they are warned to arrange a ride to and from their appointment.
Yes. Before we book any type of appointment we require a medical referral. This referral may be from your family physician or specialist. You can download and print a copy of our referral form or select Requisition Form from the main menu.
9. What should I do to prepare for my examination?
Patients are strongly encouraged to review all information under Your MRI Appointment, as each exam may require different preparation.
You can take any medications as necessary, this will not affect your exam.
11. What can I expect during my MRI scan?
After checking in with reception and changing into a gown that we provide, one of our MRI technologists will position the patient on a cushioned MRI table. As the MRI machine can be loud, patients are provided with earplugs to wear during their scan. The table is then moved into the centre of the scanner and the images are taken. The patient has verbal contact with the technologist throughout the scan should they need to contact the technologist quickly. An MRI examination will last between 30 to 45 minutes depending on the area being scanned.

If your MRI exam is being covered by a 3rd party (i.e. Provincial Workers Compensation Board, insurance company, corporation) we require a written authorization prior to performing the examination.
16. How long does the MRI examination take?
A MRI takes between 30 to 45 minutes, and it is imperative that the patient lay as still as possible.
Patient reports for all examinations are sent to the referring physician in 48 working hours of the examination.
18. Can I leave my MRI exam with my Report & Images?
Your MRI report will be faxed to your doctor 48 hours after your exam.
If you are a private paying patient you will leave with a CD copy of your MRI images at no cost.
All images are kept on optical disc and you can always request a copy of your report or images for up to 7-years after your MRI exam.

20. Do I need to pay for parking?
Free 2-hour parking is available in the front of the clinic on Papineau Street.
Handicapped Parking is also available at our clinic.
MRI is used to help diagnose hundreds of medical conditions and abnormalities of the body, too numerous to list here.
