Your MRI Appointment
There are no special preparations for your MRI. You may eat and drink normally, and should continue to take any prescribed medications.
If you are having an MRI of either the abdomen or pelvis, you will be asked to not eat or drink for 4 hours prior to your MRI exam.
When you arrive for your appointment you will be greeted by our receptionist and signed in.
You will be shown to a private change room and asked to change into a medical gown. Remove items such as jewelry, watches, coins, credit cards as well as clothing with metal zippers, hooks or snaps. You will able to lock up your valuables during your MRI scan.

Our technologists will position you on the cushioned MRI table.
You will be provided with soft earplugs, as the scanner makes loud knocking noises during the procedure. These loud noises are the magnets changing positions in the MRI machine and the sound of the scanner taking the pictures.
You will then be asked to try to relax and lay as still as possible during the scan. The exam will last anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes for each area of the body to be examined.
You will be free to leave as soon as your exam is completed. Private patients can leave with a free copy of their MRI images.
The radiologists report will be faxed to your doctors office in 2 working days. Your MRI images will be retained on an optical disc at our office for several years and your doctor may request them at any time.
